Monthly Japan?
I write novels based on my experiences in Japan.
Which is why I sent the following email the other day:
***
If I offered you a monthly virtual experience in Japan with books, videos, and art, so that you could learn about Japanese culture and people without jumping on a plane for $197 or 2 payments of $99, would you take me up on that offer?
***
After that, I sent out a link to my Patreon where I host all the content.
I promised to break down what exactly is included in this content…
But…I never did.
So let’s. Break. It. Down.
This is a membership community that I used to call “Raw Japan”…
Now I call it…”Japan Story Collective”
For $197 or two payments of $99, you get stories from Japan through my books and digital experiences for one year.
Here’s what’s inside:
*One book every month.
*One travel video every month.
*One live Q&A call with me & local Japanese people every month.
The book is exactly what it sounds like, a novel.
You get the ebook version of a thriller or fantasy with some romance elements to it.
All of my writing is based in Japan since I’ve been here for close to a decade.
A lot of the characters and situations are based on actual people I’ve met and experiences I’ve had over 9 years.
But if you prefer real-life to fictional stories, you can enjoy the monthly travel video.
You have jvlogs on Youtube and NHK World on TV already, so why would you pay for some rando’s (me) travel videos in Japan?
Because you can vote.
Yes, you get to choose where I visit. What I eat. What I shoot.
That way, you can get a heads-up on places and food you want to travel and experience for yourself, but can’t find any information on. So next time you visit Japan, you’ll have an idea of what it’s like.
Or maybe you just want see the beautiful sights and hear the sounds and submerge yourself into the silence from home…
That’s just a sliver of choice.
But if you want ALL the choice, you can join the monthly live Q&A session with me and local Japanese folks.
Learn some Japanese…
Get insights from the source…
And ask about that weird, obscure thing you saw in a movie, anime, or manga.
That’s all inside the community.
12 months of content for one payment of $197.
Or two payments of $99.
Some of you are new to this newsletter, so let me answer some of the questions you probably have:
Is it worth the $197?
Traveling to Japan is at least $1000 from most English-speaking places in the world. For the flight. Tack on the hotels, food, and experiences and you’re getting close to 20x the cost of this community.
Can it truly replicate being there?
No. Traveling to Japan is your best option. But if you want insight before you come that you can’t find anywhere else online (because you can personalize it), then this is for you.
What about digital overload?
Good thing about a community vs an online course, is that you can pop in when you want without feeling guilty. Also, how much time do you spend scrolling mindlessly on all the Silicon Valley apps? Exactly.
Will I lose the joy of discovery on my trip?
Just like Lonely Planet and TripAdvisor give you useful tips before coming, so does this community. Except, more than practical tips, I bring you stories. Stories that leave room for you to discover Japan yourself.
Will I find the content engaging?
If you like NHK World (I’ve been featured in 4 documentaries), and Youtube videos from English speakers living here, then you’ll probably like what I got.
Is the platform user-friendly?
Simple as a Facebook group. Without all the noise.
What if I'm looking for fresh content?
You’ll get it. Every month. And content that YOU actually want to see, because you can request places, food, and events.
Worried about joining a new community?
I ran live calls 2 ~ 4 times every month from 2018 ~ 2022. The community members were respectful to each other and helped me create a welcoming atmosphere.
Are the books digital?
Yes. You get my books in PDF, epub, and mobi formats every month to read from your browser, phone, tablet, or Kindle.
Are your books any good?
Good question. Depends on what you like. But feel free to read the reviews on Amazon. And check out my latest Kickstarter where 20 or so people I’ve never talked to in my life threw money at me to write a book.
So how do you get into the Japan Story Collective?
Hit reply with “JSC” and I’ll send you the link.
First 3 readers to reply get 50% off - you only pay $99 for the year.
Talk soon,
