Ant-Man told me this
Firstly, thank you for pressing all the buttons. It helps a lot.
I saw Ant-Man yesterday in theatres.
I haven’t seen the other movies in the series, but it was cool.
You know…I laughed.
Still after I left, I thought to myself, “Millions in budget and still only got a few laughs out of me and a gnawing sense of boredom.”
Maybe I’m selective with my superheroes.
Or maybe Marvel movies are just so mass-appeal that they lose substance.
I get it.
When you’re trying to make art for the world, it gets hard to appease everyone.
But that’s what Ant-Man told me unconsciously through the movie.
He said, “Look at this. We have unlimited resources, access to top-rated talent worldwide, and still can only make this.”
Yes, lots of flashy CGI and legendary actors. I mean, Bill Murray and Michael Douglas?!
Therefore, I should be praising the heavens for the art they bestowed onto us, yes?
No.
Art is subjective. And even more so when it’s highly commercialized like the Marvel franchise.
But it worked out in the end.
Because I left with ants in my pants.
Ha….Ha….Ha
My fire to make stuff was bitten by fire…an—OK, you get the point.
Small artists, like me, can still do big things.
But it takes time.
And a community, like you, that resonates with the work.
So I’m back in your inbox to ask about your feelings.
No, it’s not a therapy session.
I’m asking because the better I know what you want, the better content I can make for you from here in Japan.
Whether that’s novels, digital art, or videos.
I’ll get back to our normal programming soon.
But before I dive in to daily emails again, let’s gauge where you’re at.
